Design, Specs & Trim Levels

The 2012 Subaru Outback will follow many of the same design lines as the 2011 Outback – a major facelift isn’t expected until the 2013 model. However, drivers can look forward to design improvements like more legroom throughout the cabin and improved fuel economy.

Most Subaru watchers expect that the new 2012 Outback will be available with either a 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder engine, and generally follow the same trim levels as last year’s model:

• 2.5i – 16″ wheels, power accessories, cruise & more
• 2.5i Premium – 17″ alloy wheels, foglights, privacy glass & power driver seat
• 2.5i Limited – All-Weather Package, plus enhanced audio & other extras

The 3.6R, Premium and Limited trims feature a bigger engine, but the same features as the 2.5i models.

Release Date

The biggest news out of Subaru this month was that its entire 2012 lineup, including the Outback, would not arrive in the US until November.

The Outback had originally been scheduled for a September release date, but the earthquake and tsunami have understandably slowed production.
